Assessment 5: Leadership Philosophy for Leading Innovative Teams – Week 12

As argued in class, epoch times force people to search for new knowledge. You are in an era of radical change with advancing technology, globalisation, shifting power relations and heightened competition. Developing new knowledge necessarily implies creativity and innovation. Those who don’t innovate run the risk of losing their comparative advantage. Those who become more innovative will shape the future – they will become “makers” rather than “takers”.

‘The Scenario’

Congratulations. You have been chosen as the preferred consultant to deliver a paper to Company XYZ’s leadership team. As you are aware from the consulting brief our company has engaged in a transformational process where we have implemented flatter structures and cross-functional teams in an attempt to improve our response to the fast-changing nature of our industry, markets, and customer preferences. Despite these structural changes our company continues to lose market share – “Our competitiors continue to provide more innovative solutions”.  We need you to produce an analysis that provides a leadership philosophy to improve our ability to innovate.
